Reflection

Wow. I must say that I am extremely surprised by the results of America's voting. I thought that the race would have been much closer than it turned out to be. Florida was trouble free and switched parties on us. Ohio went with Obama. Arizona, McCain's home state, was a fight to the end.
I am extremely proud to be an American right now. I didn't think we had it in us to turn the page in American History. To turn the page from our violent and racist past and start a new chapter. A chapter that will hopefully allow us to prosper and live in equality and fulfill some of the insights of the MLK Dream Speech. A black president means a lot to me because I am black myself. This is a huge turning point for our people. We must support Obama and pray for his well being and his decision making. It is amazing to think that we came to this country 300-400 years ago and people thought we weren't even human. We couldn't even vote. Our founding fathers and framers of the Constitution condemned us to being three fourths of a person and that was our representation in each state. Now fast forward. We are free. We are integrated. We are educated. We can read. We can vote. We have overcome extreme obstacles and circumstances. We are the people of the United States of America.
On a side note I am disappointed in my classmates. I thought they were more mature than the actions and comments they have portrayed to me. When Obama won some started a countdown on their Facebook or Myspace counting the days until Obama is assassinated. Others claim that their parents have gotten them passports so they will be free to move out of the country at a moment's notice. And still some others make rude comments during the Pledge of Allegiance emphasizing the words under God and such. I am appalled by this behavior and am ready to resort to giving them a lashing of the tongue but I am better than that and it would not prove anything anyway. People are entitled to their opinion. And whatever I say to them wouldn't sway them in the least bit.
Go President-elect Obama. God Bless America.
